Dr. Sreedhar Bharath is Professor of Finance and Dean’s Council of 100 Distinguished Scholar at W. P. Carey School of Business, Arizona State University. Previous to his appointment at ASU, Dr. Bharath was an Assistant Professor of Finance at University of Michigan from 2002-2010. Bharath’s research interests are in the areas of banking relationships, credit risk, and corporate finance. He has published articles in the Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Banking and Finance, and Accounting Review.
Bharath has received numerous awards and recognition for his research. He received the Fannie Mae Best Paper Award in Financial Institutions and Markets at the 2004 Financial Management Association Annual Meetings, the Law and Economics Consulting Group’s Best Paper Award in Corporate Finance at the 2007 European Finance Association Annual Meeting, the Best Paper Award in Asset Pricing (second place) from the Journal of Financial Economics in 2008, the Caesarea Center’s Fifth Annual Academic Conference Best Paper Award, IDC Herzlyia, in 2008, and the Bank One Corporation’s Assistant Professor of Business Administration—Ross School of Business, University of Michigan School-wide Research Award in 2009.
Bharath’s teaching experience spans courses in Financial Management, Banks and Financial Institutions, Corporate Finance, and Investment Banking and Project Appraisal. In 2009, he was nominated for the Best MBA teacher of the year award. He has consulted for JP Morgan, New York – Emerging Markets Group as well as UBS, Zurich – Merger Strategy Evaluation.
Bharath earned a Bachelor’s of Technology in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology – Chennai, an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management – Ahmedabad, and a Ph.D. in Finance from New York University’s Stern School of Business.
